Assam CM to Inaugurate Elevated South Bank Corridor of North Guwahati Bridge

Guwahati, 4th March: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to dedicate the elevated South Bank Corridor of the North Guwahati bridge to the public on March 4.

The bridge, constructed at a cost of Rs 326 crore, aims to enhance connectivity between Bhootnath to Machkhowa and vice versa, effectively diverting traffic over the river.

In anticipation of the inauguration, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the significance of decongesting Guwahati.

He underscored the importance of the newly constructed corridor, which is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and streamline connectivity in the region.

The major corridor of the Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge’s Elevated South Bank Corridor is scheduled to open on Monday, March 4, 2024.

The project, announced by Sarma on December 19, is nearing completion, with the section set to connect Sonaram Field to Machkhowa while bypassing Bhootnath point making significant progress.

The ambitious bridge project, spanning the Brahmaputra River, is nearing 80 percent completion according to Sarma’s announcement on a microblogging site.

Aimed at mitigating traffic congestion in Guwahati, the six-lane bridge-cum-road project remains on track for completion by Diwali 2024.
