Assam CM Unveils Initiatives to Boost Assamese Film Industry
Guwahati, 17th February: In a groundbreaking announcement on the microblogging site X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed a series of initiatives aimed at revitalizing the Assamese film industry.
The Assam Budget 2024 allocates significant support measures for the local cinema sector, underlining the government’s dedication to nurturing and promoting Assamese talent on the global platform.
The government has pledged 10 lakh rupees to each full-fledged Assamese cinema, providing crucial financial backing to sustain and elevate their operations.
A panel comprising distinguished judges will oversee the nomination process, ensuring transparency and equity in selecting recipients for government assistance.
In a move to safeguard the welfare of artists and technicians, the government will facilitate their enrollment in the Atal Pension Yojana, covering 50% of their contributions for a duration of five years.
Demonstrating its commitment to infrastructure enhancement, the government plans to inject 50 lakhs as share capital, grants, or soft loans for each new cinema hall proposed by NGOs, cultural organizations, or the private sector.
These initiatives underscore the government’s resolve to invigorate the Assamese film industry, fostering a conducive environment for creativity, innovation, and growth.
