Assam CM Updates on Flood Situation, Cautiously Optimistic as Waters Recede

Guwahati, 3rd July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma provided a comprehensive update on July 3 regarding the ongoing flood situation in the state, expressing cautious optimism as water levels begin to recede after widespread disruption caused by recent cloudburst-triggered floods.

CM Sarma noted a gradual decrease in floodwaters, offering hope to affected communities. The state administration remains vigilant, intensifying efforts to manage the aftermath of the deluge effectively.

Attributing the floods to a sudden cloudburst, CM Sarma emphasized its role in exacerbating flood conditions and necessitating a swift response to mitigate impacts on people and infrastructure. He underscored ongoing efforts, stating, “We are working 24/7 to ensure no further embankment breaches occur,” highlighting the critical reinforcement of embankments to prevent additional flooding.

Looking forward, CM Sarma expressed confidence that the situation would significantly improve within a week, commending the relentless efforts of government agencies and relief teams involved in flood management and rehabilitation. Immediate relief measures, including the establishment of relief camps and distribution of essential supplies, are prioritized, particularly for vulnerable groups.

The Assam government remains committed to both short-term relief and long-term flood prevention strategies to safeguard communities from future disasters.
