Assam CM Urges High Voter Turnout for Lok Sabha Polls
Guwahati, 13th May: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform X on May 13 to encourage citizens to participate enthusiastically in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha polls.
In his message, CM Sarma emphasized the significance of voting, urging all eligible voters to exercise their franchise in large numbers. He stressed that a higher voter turnout would further fortify the democratic process.
As the mega-electoral exercise unfolds across the nation, voters in nine states and a union territory are casting their ballots. The voting, which commenced at 7 am, encompasses 96 Lok Sabha constituencies and includes elections to two state legislative assemblies.
Spanning various regions, the polling entails parliamentary constituencies in Andhra Pradesh (25), Telangana (17), Uttar Pradesh (13), Maharashtra (11), Madhya Pradesh (8), West Bengal (8), Bihar (5), Jharkhand (4), Odisha (4), and Jammu & Kashmir (1). Additionally, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are simultaneously conducting elections for new state assemblies. A total of 1,717 candidates are vying for positions in this phase.
Key electoral battles are unfolding in numerous constituencies, featuring prominent candidates such as AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, Congress’s Adhir Chowdhury, TMC’s Mahua Moitra, BJP’s Giriraj Singh, JD(U)’s Lalan Singh, TMC’s Shatrughan Sinha and Yusuf Pathan, BJP’s Arjun Munda and Madhavi Latha, and Andhra Congress chief YS Sharmila.
