Assam CM visits flood-affected areas of Silchar
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assessed the deteriorating flood situation in Silchar in Cachar district on a boat on Sunday.
Sarma met with the populace while evaluating the devastation brought on by the floodwaters. Sarma also convened a review meeting to discuss the flood situation and the rescue efforts being made in the area.
It may be mentioned that the chief minister has just returned from his second trip to flood-stricken Silchar in a week. Sarma conducted an aerial assessment of Silchar on Thursday using a special aircraft to assess the damage brought on by the rising water levels of the Barak River.
Nearly 2.78 lakh people are affected in the Cachar district with 96,689 people suffering in Silchar town alone. A total population of 1,09,868 are taking refuge in 224 relief camps in the district, including 25,148 people in Silchar.
