Assam CM visits flood-affected areas of Silchar and Barak Valley

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Silchar in Cachar district on Thursday and assessed the flood situation of the area.

Sarma flew a special aircraft into the Silchar airfield and conducted an aerial assessment of the town in order to assess the damage brought on by the rising flood levels of the Barak River. Sarma then chaired a review meeting with the officials of the district at the Deputy Commisioner’s (DC) office.

The chief minister also interacted with the flood victims and also inspected the rescue efforts being made.

Meanwhile, helicopters in Silchar dropped packages with food, water bottles, and other necessities.

Taking to twitter, CM Sarma said, “Packets containing food items, water bottles & essentials airdropped today at flood-hit Silchar by helicopters. We plan to continue such air-droppings for our stranded people in the days ahead, apart from the regular relief. Our Govt is firmly with the people of Barak Valley.”
