Assam CM Visits Grieving Family of Boy Swept Away by Floodwaters

Guwahati, 9th July: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma paid a heartfelt visit to the family of Avinash Sarkar, the 8-year-old boy who tragically fell into a drain and was swept away by floodwaters on July 4. Expressing his condolences, Sarma assured the grieving parents of the government’s unwavering support during this harrowing time.

Avinash’s body was discovered on July 7, concluding a three-day search operation. His parents, Hiralal and his wife, identified their son’s body at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), where scientific examinations and further procedures are ongoing.

The incident unfolded in the Jyotinagar area amid heavy rain when Avinash slipped from his father’s scooter. Despite Hiralal’s desperate efforts to save his son, the powerful current overwhelmed them. The parents remained at the search site, clinging to hope for a miracle.

On the microblogging site X, Sarma expressed his sorrow: “Avinash’s parents are confronted with the worst possible tragedy. I want to assure them that we stand shoulder to shoulder with them in this hour of grief. Om Shanti 🙏🏼.”

Chief Minister Sarma had previously visited the Sarkar family on Saturday, overseeing the search operations and providing comfort. His recent visit underscores the government’s commitment to supporting the family through their unimaginable loss.
