Assam CM Vows Crackdown on Pro-Pakistan Online Content Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

Guwahati: Guwahati reels under the stern declaration issued by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has pledged stringent action against any individual found propagating anti-national rhetoric online, especially content glorifying Pakistan. This directive emerges against the backdrop of the horrific April 22nd terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians.

In a candid address to the press this Saturday, the Chief Minister disclosed the arrest of a young man from Hajo, situated in the Kamrup district, for allegedly disseminating pro-Pakistan materials via social media platforms. “The Assam government is vigilantly monitoring all digital spaces,” Sarma asserted, “Any person who directly or indirectly endorses Pakistan will face the full force of the National Security Act (NSA). We will not tolerate such activities.”

These pronouncements were delivered immediately after the unveiling of the BJP’s election manifesto for the forthcoming Panchayat polls in Assam. The event, held at the party’s Guwahati headquarters, saw the Chief Minister alongside Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia. The state’s Panchayat elections are set to proceed in two phases, on May 2nd and 7th, with the vote tabulation scheduled for May 11th.

This heightened state of alert is directly linked to the recent terror assault at the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where militants unleashed gunfire upon tourists. The tragic incident resulted in 26 fatalities, including a Nepali national, and inflicted severe injuries on numerous others. The attack has ignited widespread national outrage and underscored the pressing need to address internal security threats and the insidious influence of radical online content.
