Assam CM Warns of Regional Instability Amid Bangladesh Crisis
Guwahati, 7th August: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has voiced significant concerns regarding the political instability in Bangladesh and its potential impact on Assam. With the political situation in Bangladesh rapidly evolving, Sarma fears that the possible fall of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government could lead to a resurgence of North Eastern rebels.
Sarma highlighted the crucial role Hasina played in dismantling terrorist factions in the region, stating, “The current developments in Bangladesh are worrisome. Sheikh Hasina’s leadership was instrumental in eradicating North Eastern terrorist factions from the country.” He expressed apprehension that the decline of Hasina’s government might provide an opportunity for militants to exploit the chaos, thereby threatening regional stability.
Reflecting on the situation, Sarma emphasized the need for vigilance and resilience. “In these uncertain times, as we vigilantly monitor our borders with Bangladesh, my thoughts often turn to the future of Assam,” he said. On X (formerly Twitter), Sarma wrote, “I pray for strength and patience to sail through the present, with hope that our efforts today will lay the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. May we find the courage to protect our religion and culture.”
The Chief Minister’s comments underline the urgency of maintaining border security and regional stability amid the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh.
