Assam CM’s IndiGo Flight Diverted to Agartala Amid Guwahati Downpour

Guwahati: Persistent rain and thunderstorms on Saturday forced a last-minute flight diversion for Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma. The IndiGo flight, carrying the CM from Dibrugarh to Guwahati, was unable to land at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport due to the adverse weather and was instead rerouted to Agartala.

Sources from the Chief Minister’s Office confirmed that the diversion was a standard precautionary measure taken to ensure the safety of all passengers on board. After a brief wait, the skies over Guwahati cleared, and the aircraft took off from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to continue its journey.

The incident came after the India Meteorological Department’s regional centre in Guwahati had issued a forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms between 2:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. for the day. Normal flight operations have since resumed.

The weather bureau has predicted unstable conditions to persist across the region for the coming week, with authorities advising travellers to keep a close eye on airline updates before heading out.
