Assam: Communal Rumours Dispelled After School Incident in Keutkona-Thamuya
Guwahati: An incident at a local school in the Keutkona-Thamuya area, which sparked communal tensions, has been resolved after concerned locals stepped in to clarify the situation. The episode, initially rumoured to be a case of a Hindu teacher misbehaving with a Muslim student, was found to be a simple misunderstanding over a disciplinary matter.
The incident unfolded during school hours when certain individuals alleged that a Hindu teacher had been inappropriate with a Muslim girl. The claims quickly escalated, prompting police to arrive at the scene and escort both the teacher and the student from the premises to de-escalate the situation.
However, the truth behind the matter was far from the communal narrative being spread. The student herself later clarified that the teacher had reprimanded her for not taking part in a school cultural programme. The scolding, which happened in front of her peers, had embarrassed her, and some people had misinterpreted the routine disciplinary action, turning it into a false allegation of misconduct.
The clarification came after representatives of the Panchayat president and other community members spoke with the student, confirming that there was no communal angle to the incident. Authorities and local leaders are now urging the community to verify facts before jumping to conclusions, emphasizing the importance of not spreading misinformation that can incite unnecessary panic and communal discord.
