Assam Cong Chief to CM: Focus More On Relief For Flood Affected

Guwahati: Bhupen Kumar Borah, the president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) on Wednesday urged Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to focus on flood relief efforts rather than engage in political revelry.

Borah’s comments come as rebel Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde along with 33 members of his party, as well as seven independent MLAs arrived in Guwahati earlier today. They were received by BJP MLA Sushanta Borgohain and MP Pallab Lochan Das.

Taking to Twitter, the Assam Congress president asked CM Sarma to focus on his own duty of delivering aid and rehabilitation to the state’s flood-affected residents.

He wrote, “CM Assam @himantabiswa should concentrate on his own job and provide adequate relief and rehabilitation and help the flood affected people of Assam. He can do his politicking in happier times not now when people are crying for @mygovassam help.”

It may be noted that Maharashtra cabinet minister Shinde arrived in Guwahati from Surat in Gujarat amid speculations of defection to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Shinde was in Gujarat following the cross-voting event in the Maharashtra Legislative Council (MLC) elections.

Meanwhile, Assam and the entire northeast saw torrential rainfall during the past month which caused flooding and landslides in various states. Assam, one of the hardest affected states recorded up to 88 deaths from extremities.
