Assam Congress Aims to Distance Itself from Himanta Biswa Sarma’s Influence
Guwahati, 14th February: Bhupen Borah, President of the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), asserted that the party is striving to break free from the influence of Himanta Biswa Sarma. Borah’s statement follows the public declaration of support for the BJP by two Congress MLAs in Assam.
Addressing the media, Borah stated, “The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee is progressing towards becoming a party free from Himanta Biswa Sarma’s influence. Footage retrieved from the media has been forwarded to the AICC, and the AICC in-charge will make a decision. Congress leaders are hopeful for a future without Himanta Biswa Sarma’s sway.”
Earlier, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma welcomed the decision of Congress MLAs Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and Basanta Das to extend unconditional support to the BJP government. Sarma expressed gratitude for their endorsement, citing it as a fortunate development that will bolster the party’s efforts to serve the people of Assam.
Sarma highlighted the significance of their support, particularly Basanta Das’s cooperation, which he believes will contribute to positive changes in the region. He also acknowledged Kamalakhya Dey’s resignation from his post, expressing optimism about serving the people more effectively with their backing.
