Assam Congress and Groups Protest Alleged Atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh

Assam: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) and several organizations staged statewide protests, accusing the central government of failing to ensure the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh.

The protests highlighted grievances against what they termed ineffective foreign policies under the BJP-led NDA government, which they alleged had failed to address religious persecution in the neighboring country.

In Guwahati, Congress activists, led by the party’s state women’s wing president Mira Borthakur, demonstrated against both the BJP government at the Centre and the Bangladeshi authorities. “We demand that our prime minister engage directly with Bangladesh’s leaders to secure the safety of Hindus there,” Borthakur said. She criticized the government for prioritizing the interests of business elites while being unable to exert pressure on Bangladesh to safeguard its Hindu minority.

Echoing similar concerns, demonstrations by the Indian Forum for Bangladesh Peace in Silchar and by Lok Jagaran Manch across various districts also condemned the reported atrocities. Protesters held sit-ins and processions in cities such as Nagaon, Nalbari, Jorhat, and Udalguri, calling for peace and urging Bangladesh to take concrete measures to protect Hindus and their places of worship.

The Lok Jagaran Manch emphasized global solidarity among Hindus and demanded immediate action from the Bangladeshi government to address religious persecution. Demonstrators carried placards and chanted slogans advocating for the safety of Hindu communities.

The protests reflect growing concerns about cross-border religious harmony and have put additional pressure on the central government to reassess its foreign policy approach toward Bangladesh. The demonstrators called for sustained diplomatic efforts to ensure the security and dignity of Hindus in the neighboring country.
