Assam: Congress Faces Setback as Four Nagaon District Youth Leaders Resign
Guwahati, 6th April: In a significant setback for the Congress party ahead of the looming Lok Sabha elections, four prominent youth leaders from Nagaon district have tendered their resignations, intensifying the party’s challenges.
The trio, comprising Liyaqat Choudhury, Irshad Haq, and Shabnam Bhuiyan, all serving as general secretaries of the district Congress in Nagaon, made their decision public on April 6, officially stepping down from the primary membership of the party. Adding to the exodus, Nizamul Haq, the General Secretary of Nagaon Zila Youth Congress, also announced his departure from the party.
This latest wave of resignations deals yet another blow to the Congress party, which has been grappling with a series of defections and internal discord in recent times. The departures further underscore growing discontentment within the party’s ranks, exacerbated by perceived leadership failures and a shifting political landscape.
With the elections drawing closer, the Congress finds itself increasingly vulnerable to defections, as disillusioned leaders and members seek new political affiliations. The ongoing trend of defections, particularly to the BJP, underscores the challenges faced by the Congress in retaining its support base and navigating the electoral landscape effectively.
