Assam Congress Files Police Complaint Against BJP Minister Vijay Shah Over Remarks on Col. Sofiya Qureshi
Guwahati: The Assam Congress has lodged a police complaint against BJP MLA and Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah, accusing him of making derogatory remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, the Indian Army officer who recently briefed the media on the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’. The complaint was filed by the party’s civic and social outreach wing at the Dispur police station.
In a strongly worded statement, the Congress alleged that Shah’s comments had not only disrespected a senior officer of the armed forces but also hurt public sentiment across the nation. Bandeep Dutta, chairman of the civic and social outreach wing, emphasized the gravity of the issue, stating, “Remarks against any official of the armed forces cannot be tolerated. Such remarks will weaken the morale of our forces.”
Dutta further noted that at a time when the entire nation is standing in solidarity with the armed forces, a statement undermining the contribution of a senior officer like Col. Qureshi is “highly condemnable” and goes against the spirit of national unity.
Col. Sofiya Qureshi had been at the forefront of communicating details of ‘Operation Sindoor’, the military response launched by India following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. Her role in the public briefing has drawn widespread praise, making Shah’s alleged remarks particularly controversial.
The Congress has demanded strict action against Vijay Shah and urged authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves, highlighting the need to uphold the dignity of those serving in uniform.
