Assam: Congress Leader Rakibul Hussain Set to Contest For Dhubri LS Seat, Reports

Guwahati, 9th March: Prominent Congress leader Rakibul Hussain is poised to contest for the Dhubri seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to reports within the party.

However, the final list is expected to be announced on March 11, which will mark the Congress party’s second list of candidates.

Hussain is scheduled to kickstart his election campaign from Gauripur on March 11 onwards.

With Rakibul Hussain emerging as the chosen candidate for the Dhubri LS seat, the political future of Barpeta sitting MP Abdul Khaleque appears uncertain, as reports suggest he failed to secure a nomination for the forthcoming polls.

Meanwhile, parody king Sukur Ali is preparing to contest from the Rashtriya Ulama Council for the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat.

Ali expressed disappointment, stating that despite his contributions to the BJP party, the AGP-BJP alliance led to the selection of AGP’s Zabed Islam as the candidate for the Dhubri seat, currently held by AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal.

With AIUDF’s strong presence in Dhubri and Sukur Ali’s entry into the fray with the Rashtriya Ulama Council, alongside veteran Congress leader Rakibul Hussain, the constituency promises to be an intriguing battleground in the days ahead.

Assam’s Health Minister, Keshab Mahanta, voiced confidence in the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) party’s chances of securing victory in the Dhubri Lok Sabha seat.

Mahanta remarked to the media, “The developmental initiatives undertaken by the current Central Government under PM Modi have positively influenced the sentiments of minorities in the region. This gives us hope that AGP’s candidate will prevail over the ruling AIUDF this time.”
