Assam Congress Leader Reveals GMC’s Negligence in Waste Disposal Proximity to Botanical Garden in Fancy Bazar

Guwahati, 7th December: Expressing profound concerns, Gauravv Somani, Secretary of the Assam State Congress and President of the All India Professionals’ Congress (AIPC) Assam unit, has raised alarm over the environmental consequences and potential threats to public health.

This comes in response to reports that the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has initiated the dumping of garbage in close proximity to the Botanical Garden situated in Fancy Bazar.

The revelation surfaced through video showcasing GMC garbage dustbins inside the jail complex near the Botanical Garden.

Somani criticized the government for what he perceives as contradictory actions. While acknowledging the establishment of a botanical garden by the GMC within the old jail complex in Fancy Bazar—an initiative aimed at fostering a healthy environment and addressing air pollution in the bustling commercial area—Somani pointed out the irony of the local government concurrently setting up a municipal solid waste facility in such close proximity to the botanical garden.
