Assam: Congress Leader Siddeque Ahmed Under Scrutiny for Alleged Post-Deadline LS Campaign
Guwahati, 25th April: The campaign for the second phase of Lok Sabha polls in Assam concluded amidst controversy as Congress MLA Siddeque Ahmed from Karimganj allegedly violated election guidelines by continuing his campaign beyond the official deadline.
Reportedly, Ahmed engaged in campaigning through Facebook Live even after the stipulated 5 pm deadline, urging people to vote for the BJP despite being a Congress MLA. The incident raised concerns of election code violations and garnered attention on social media platforms.
Across the five constituencies set for polling in the second phase, a total of 61 candidates are contesting, representing diverse regions including Barak Valley, the hill district, and the Brahmaputra Valley.
Notable national leaders were actively involved in the campaign, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah conducting a roadshow in Silchar (SC) in support of BJP candidate Parimal Suklabaidya. Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee also lent her support to the party’s candidate Radheshyam Biswas in Silchar (SC).
The BJP’s campaign, spearheaded by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saw multiple rallies daily across all constituencies, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directing efforts towards campaigning in Barak Valley.
