Assam Congress MP Condemns BJP for Communal Politics Amid Election Defeat

Guwahati, 20th July: Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for allegedly engaging in “communal politics” following its defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Gogoi accused the BJP of resorting to divisive tactics in response to its electoral loss, asserting that the party has reverted to its old strategies of communal polarization across various states.

Gogoi highlighted that similar tactics have been observed in other states, such as Uttar Pradesh, where an order mandated the display of shop owners’ names during the Kanwar Yatra. In Assam, he alleged that the BJP is manipulating community demographics to serve its political agenda, continuing a pattern of exploiting community divisions for electoral gain.

In a related development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commented on population control in the state, making a pointed remark about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sarma suggested that Gandhi’s involvement as a brand ambassador for a population control campaign could lead to an immediate decline in the state’s population growth.

Sarma argued that Gandhi’s influence, particularly among certain demographics in Assam, could be instrumental in addressing the population issue. He noted that Gandhi holds significant sway in Muslim villages, where his endorsements are highly regarded. Sarma contended that if Gandhi supported a population control drive, it would likely have a substantial impact.

These remarks reflect ongoing political tensions and debates surrounding community dynamics and electoral strategies in Assam.
