Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi Criticizes Central Water Commission Over Flood Negligence

Guwahati, 9th July: Assam Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has launched a strong criticism against the Central Water Commission (CWC), accusing it of neglecting Assam amidst the state’s severe flood crisis. In a recent post on the microblogging site X, Gogoi emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive, long-term solution and substantial financial investment to tackle the recurring issues of floods and erosion in Assam.

Representing the Jorhat constituency, Gogoi highlighted the lack of significant progress in flood management efforts over the past eight years under the ‘double-engine’ BJP government at both state and central levels. He specifically called out the CWC for overlooking Assam’s plight, urging the Minister of Jal Shakti to visit the state and witness the situation firsthand during these challenging times.

The MP’s concerns were underscored by recent developments, as he reported on July 8 that the ongoing floods have claimed 78 lives across Assam. In a series of tweets, Gogoi detailed the extensive devastation caused by relentless rains, which have inundated homes and displaced numerous families. His visits to affected areas around Jorhat revealed a grim reality, with widespread damage to infrastructure and livelihoods.

Beyond the immediate humanitarian impact, Gogoi pointed out the severe agricultural and livestock losses, warning of potential food security crises in the affected regions. He called for urgent action from authorities to provide immediate relief and support to affected communities.
