Assam Congress President Issues Show-Cause Notice to MLA for Controversial Remarks

Guwahati, 7th November: Assam Congress President, Bhupen Borah, has taken decisive action by issuing a show-cause notice to Goalpara MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah in response to Mollah’s highly controversial comments about Priests, Namgharias, and Saints. The notice, dated November 7, arises from an incident at a public meeting in Goalpara district on November 4, where Mollah’s comments stirred strong reactions and criticisms from the people of Assam.

The notice serves as a firm reminder of the principles upheld by the Indian National Congress, emphasizing the party’s unwavering commitment to secular, democratic values. It clearly states the Congress’s position, which is strongly against the propagation of hatred, religious animosity, and divisive comments in society. Instead, the Indian National Congress has maintained its consistent dedication to spreading the message of unity, integrity, and social harmony among the people of the country, all while respecting the rich cultural diversity that characterizes India.

The state unit of the Congress further highlighted the party’s enduring respect for religious figures, emphasizing that the principles and perspective of the Indian National Congress have never been against Saints, Priests, Peers, Maulanas, or Namgharias. Throughout its history, the Congress party has demonstrated due respect for these figures and their important role in the nation’s cultural and social fabric.

In the show-cause notice, Bhupen Borah expressed his deep disappointment and called upon MLA Aftab Uddin Mollah to retract his statement and issue a public apology to the media immediately.

This action taken by the Assam Congress President underscores the party’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, harmonious coexistence, and the appreciation of religious figures within society.
