Assam Congress Says No Chance Of Alliance With ‘Communal’ AIUDF

Guwahati: AIUDF Chief Badruddin Ajmal recently expressed interest in working with the Congress and asked them to do so in the fight against the BJP, but the Assam Congress has flatly rejected this and stated that there is no way to “weave alliance” with Ajmal’s group once more.

Congress and the AIUDF have previously joined forces to contest polls, but they have since broken up these alliances.

Bhupen Kumar Borah, the head of the Assam Congress, told ANI that his party will not join forces with the AIUDF, which he called a “communal force.”

“Both the AIUDF and the BJP are ethnic groups. One communal force cannot endure, so they are overtly separating the populace while internally supporting one another in order to survive” Borah said.

“So, we are opposing this theory and people are supporting us. On behalf of the AICC, our general secretary Jitendra Singh declared on November 1 that there will be no alliance with AIUDF, this is the commitment of the All India Congress Committee to the people of Assam,” Borah added.

But he added that Congress was willing to work with other political parties in an effort to defeat the BJP and the AIUDF.

The head of the Assam Congress also asserted that Himanta Biswa Sarma is in charge of the AIUDF.

“Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma totally controls AIUDF. There are enough examples. Badruddin Ajmal himself declared that Himanta Biswa Sarma was the best Chief Minister in Assam. What’s the reason, the reason is that Himanta Biswa Sarma has supported Ajmal’s agar-based business in Assam,” he explained his argument.

“Second, everyone knows exactly what transpired in the most recent presidential and Rajya Sabha elections. In both the presidential and Rajya Sabha elections, AIUDF MLAs backed the BJP candidate. How can we reach a consensus with AIUDF? “Borah also spoke to ANI.

Notably, in the most recent Rajya Sabha and Presidential elections, some opposition lawmakers in Assam cast cross-votes for the BJP-led NDA.
