Assam: Congress Set to Unveil First List of Lok Sabha Candidates on March 7

Guwahati, 5th March: The Congress party is gearing up to unveil its first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections this week, as per reports.

With decisions on nominations for several states expected to be made by March 7, the announcement is anticipated to encompass constituencies where the BJP has already declared its candidates.

The initial list is poised to include constituencies from states such as Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Kerala. This move aims to strategically position Congress candidates in areas where the BJP has already made its nominations.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party’s apex decision-making body, is scheduled to convene to discuss the candidate list and election strategy. It’s been disclosed by a senior leader that central screening committees have already finalized candidates for most states.

Following the screening committee’s deliberations, the Central Election Committee (CEC) will review the shortlisted candidates and make the final decision. Approximately 100 seats, including those in northeastern states, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa, are expected to be finalized by the CEC.

As the electoral momentum builds up, the forthcoming announcement of candidates underscores Congress’s strategic approach towards contesting the Lok Sabha elections and positioning itself as a formidable contender in key constituencies across various states.
