Assam: Contractor Sunil Gogoi Murdered in Dhakuakhana of North Lakhimpur
A contractor named Sunil Gogoi was tragically killed and set ablaze in a field near his home in Dhakuakhana, North Lakhimpur. The shocking incident has ignited widespread concern and has prompted a swift response from the authorities.
Reports indicate that Gogoi, associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission, was found decapitated and partially burnt on Saturday night after he left his home to search for a frog. His personal belongings, including a machete and a bamboo stick, were discovered at the crime scene, adding to the grim nature of the discovery.
The murder has raised suspicions due to Gogoi’s recent involvement in the arrest of corrupt executive engineer Jayanta Kumar Goswami. Gogoi had filed a complaint that led to Goswami’s arrest by the anti-corruption department, suggesting a possible motive for his murder.
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh responded to the incident on X (formerly Twitter), assuring a comprehensive investigation into the murder. He tweeted, “Reference murder at Dhakuakhana, North Lakhimpur – A team of @AssamCid and FSL led by IGP CID has been sent to the spot from Guwahati to associate in the investigation with @lakhimpurpolice. We shall leave no stone unturned to identify the perpetrators and bring them to face justice.”
This tragic event underscores the urgent need for justice and highlights the risks faced by individuals who stand against corruption. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the truth behind Gogoi’s murder and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
