Assam cop caught red-handed accepting bribe in Lakhimpur, arrested

Guwahati, 4th October: The anti-corruption drive made another significant arrest when a Sub-Inspector, identified as Merafat Ali from Panigaon Police Station, was apprehended by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DirVAC) on bribery charges on October 4 in Assam’s Lakhimpur district.

Ali was caught in the act, accepting a bribe at the police station to facilitate bail in a criminal case.

A day prior, on October 3, in Assam’s Hailakandi district, the DirVAC team arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector named Hitush Nath from Abdullapur Police Patrol Post, also on bribery charges. Nath was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 to mediate and settle a dispute between two parties.
