Assam: CPI (Maoist) leader arrested in Guwahati

Guwahati, 16th January: In a significant development, Assam’s police force successfully apprehended a senior leader of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), identified as Amiruddin Ahmed, also known as ‘Sunil.’ Amiruddin Ahmed held a position on the central committee of the CPI (Maoist). The arrest took place in the ISBT area of the city during the evening hours of January 15.

Acting on intelligence, a Special Task Force (STF) team detained Amiruddin Ahmed, who is 54 years old and goes by the alias ‘Sunil’ or ‘Surjya.’ He hails from the village of Satsiya Pokia in Dhubri district. The information suggested that he would be arriving at ISBT from Barak Valley.

Amiruddin Ahmed, who joined the CPI (Maoist) in 2009, currently serves as the Mass Organizer in the Cachar area and holds the position of Observer for Dibrugarh. He has been active in organizing activities in Adivasi-inhabited areas of Barak.

His wife, Nirmala Biswas, also known as Seema or Subhra, is reported to be a senior functionary of CPI (Maoist) operating from West Bengal. A case has been registered at the STF PS, and Amiruddin Ahmed will be produced in court, with necessary legal action to follow.
