Assam: Cyber Fraud Operation Dismantled in Morigaon, Five Arrested

Guwahati: Morigaon police have successfully dismantled a major cyber fraud operation in a dawn raid on June 5, apprehending five suspects who allegedly cheated victims out of over Rs 10 lakh. The coordinated operation targeted a network of cybercriminals operating in the Bowalguri area under Laharighat Police Station jurisdiction.

The five suspects, all residents of villages under Laharighat Police Station in Morigaon district, have been formally arrested and are scheduled to appear in court. The arrested individuals include Annas Ali (27), Abu Ayub Ansary (22), Aslam Ahmed (29), Nur uddin (22), and Aptarul Islam (28).

According to police records, the alleged fraud amounts linked to each suspect range from Rs 1.10 lakh to Rs 3.50 lakh. The total estimated loss to victims exceeds Rs 10 lakh, with Nuruddin allegedly connected to the highest individual amount of Rs 3.50 lakh and Aslam Ahmed linked to fraudulent activities worth Rs 2.50 lakh.

Further details on the specific methods used by the alleged fraudsters and the number of victims affected have not been disclosed by police officials. The investigation is ongoing.
