Assam: Dacoit held in injured condition after exchange of gunfire in Nagaon
Guwahati, 16th November: In a significant breakthrough on November 16, the Nagaon police engaged in a fierce firefight with a notorious dacoit gang led by Raju Ahmed.
The encounter occurred between police officials and armed robbers at around 3 AM in Juria area of Nagaon.
Raju Ahmed, a most-wanted criminal to the region is accused of a range of criminal activities including dacoity car theft and drug smuggling.
Despite numerous prior attempts to apprehend Ahmed, the accused had managed to evade capture.
However, a recent breakthrough occurred when the Nagaon Police received intelligence inputs pointing to Ahmed’s location in Juria.
Responding promptly to this information, the Nagaon Police initiated a targeted operation to apprehend the wanted dacoit, effectively surrounding the area.
However, in a swift and daring response, the robbers including Ahmed opened fire on the approaching police team.
Superintendent of Police Nabaneet Mahanta reported that the confrontation escalated rapidly, with Raju Ahmed launching an attack on the police officers.
In self-defense, the police retaliated, resulting in Ahmed sustaining a gunshot wound to his right leg.
Moreover, a firearm was also seized from the injured dacoit.
The injured Raju Ahmed is currently receiving medical treatment at Bhogeswari Phukanani Civil Hospital in Nagaon, while the hunt for the remaining members of his gang continues.
Sources indicate that despite the arrest of some gang members on Wednesday, others managed to evade capture and are still at large.
