Assam: DCP East Imposes Restrictions on Assemblies Near Dispur Capital Complex

Guwahati: In a move to maintain law and order, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) East, Guwahati, Shri Mrinal Deka, has issued a prohibitory order to prevent any disruptions in the Dispur Capital Complex.

The order, effective from December 19, 2024, prohibits any assembly of more than five persons, agitations, demonstrations, processions, or the shouting of slogans within a 1-kilometer radius of the complex.

The DCP’s decision comes in response to concerns that certain individuals or groups may organize protests or demonstrations that could disrupt the normal functioning of government offices and public movement in the area. The authorities fear that such activities could lead to disturbances in public peace and tranquility.

To enforce the order, the DCP has invoked his powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Surakshya Sanhita, 2023, and a previous notification issued by the Government of Assam. Any individual or group wishing to hold any gathering or protest within the specified area must obtain prior permission from the competent authority.
