Guwahati, 31 May: A body of a youth was found under the old bridge of bhogdoi river near the Royal Road in Jorhat city on Wednesday morning, triggering a stir in the area. The cause of death of the youth who had foam out of his mouth is yet to be ascertained.
However, the identity of the youth has not been found. The youth is suspected to have died due to excessive consumption of drugs. Locals said the isolated area below this bridge on the Bhogdoi river is one of the drug taking area.
As per reports, a syringe was recovered near the deceased and a container commonly used in while taking drugs near the body and the youth is suspected to have died due to drug overdose. Police have reached the spot and launched a probe.
It is to be noted that there has been a huge increase in the prevalence of banned drugs in Jorhat city as well as in rural areas of the state. The number of thefts in the city has increased in parallel with a section of the younger generation being terribly addicted to drugs. It has come to light that drug addicts were involved in many such thefts. It has become imperative to take stricts actions action against drugs peddlers and the youths in Jorhat.
