Assam: Death toll due to heavy storm rises to 14

Guwahati: Heavy storm and rain hit the state badly and the state disaster management authority (ASDMA) on Sunday that due to this death toll in Assam risen to 14.

On Saturday the number of deaths was reported that at  eight people in the heavy storm.

“Four people were slain at Tingkhong area in Dibrugarh district on April 15, while three people were killed in Barpeta district and one in Goalpara district on April 14,” according to an ASDMA report released on Saturday. A heavy storm impacted Goalpara, Barpeta, Dibrugarh, Kamrup (Metro), Nalbari, Chirang, Darrang, Cachar, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Udalguri, and Kamrup districts, affecting a total of 20,286 persons in 592 villages.”

The storm uprooted several trees in the Tingkhong area of Assam’s Dibrugarh district, killing four persons, including a little child.

Furthermore, lightning claimed the life of a 15-year-old minor boy in the Matia area of the Goalpara district.

It may be mentioned that despite this a huge number of houses, shops and other establishment destroyed in the storm.
