Assam: Defamation case filed against Folk Singer Kalpana Patowary

Guwahati: Playback and folk singer Kalpana Patowary has run into legal difficulty after a person with ties to Bengaluru filed a defamation action against her and her family, including her husband Parvez Khan, her mother, and her sisters.

Partha Pratim Mahanta, a Bengaluru-based employee of a multinational corporation, filed the lawsuit after someone allegedly posted “objectionable” films with “defamatory” statements about him on social media.

Mahanta claimed that since 2019, the well-known artist and her family members have been regularly posting videos with offensive information on Facebook, WhatsApp, and YouTube. He launched a defamation lawsuit against them for Rs 20 crore for destroying his reputation in society.

He stated, “Kalpana Patowary and her family have been forcibly raising my young daughter (now 10 years old) since September 2019 following the tragic passing of my wife in Bangalore from a severe heart attack. For the past three years, the family has brainwashed my young daughter against me so that she will testify falsely in court. At the Dispur police station, I have already reported Kalpana Patowary and his family as missing.”

” Kalpana Patowary’s mother Jaymati Patowary (70) harassed me and filed a guardianship case in the Family Court of Guwahati in September 2019. They disobeyed the Family Court order and prevented me from meeting my daughter, who is still a juvenile. The family of Kalpana Patowary’s failure to abide with the court’s order is cause for grave concern. The main goal of Kalpana Patowary and her family is to separate my young girl from me, Mahanta continued.

The Bengaluru-based man further claimed that Patowary and her spouse Parvez Khan’s “plot” had wronged both him and his daughter.
