Assam: Delay in SSS-TET Appointments Sparks Political Outcry in Karbi Anglong

Guwahati: Former MLA and ex-Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Jagat Sing Engti, has accused the KAAC leadership of deliberately stalling the recruitment process of candidates who cleared the Sixth Schedule Special Teacher Eligibility Test (SSS-TET), intensifying pressure on the council amid rising frustration among job aspirants.

Addressing the media at the District Congress Committee office in Diphu, Engti criticized the KAAC Education Department and Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang for their failure to initiate the appointment of SSS-TET-qualified teachers. He questioned the prolonged delay, especially when autonomous councils in Bodoland and Dima Hasao have already issued appointment letters to eligible candidates. “If BTC and Dima Hasao can appoint SSS-TET-qualified teachers, why is KAAC dragging its feet?” he asked.

Engti warned that the delay could trigger unrest among unemployed youth in the region, squarely blaming the KAAC for any fallout. “The candidates are losing hope. The KAAC must act now before the situation spirals out of control,” he cautioned, calling the inaction a betrayal of the region’s aspirations for educational progress.

He further highlighted the deteriorating state of education in Karbi Anglong, pointing out that many lower primary schools are being run by a single teacher, and middle schools remain critically understaffed. Contrasting this reality with the council’s public claims of improving education, Engti dismissed such assertions as hollow rhetoric. “Where is the quality in education when schools are understaffed and teachers are waiting endlessly for appointments?” he asked.

Calling for immediate action, Engti demanded that KAAC issue recruitment advertisements and begin the hiring process without further delay. He was joined at the press meet by former Executive Member and Congress Vice President Raton Engti, along with other party members, who echoed his concerns and urged the administration to uphold its responsibility to the region’s qualified youth.
