Assam Delegation To Visit Mizoram To Discuss Border Issues
Guwahati: A government delegation from Assam will visit Mizoram on August 9–10 to resolve the continuing border issue with the neighbouring state.
“Delegation of the Assam government will be headed by Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora and he will be accompanied by state Housing and Urban Minister Ashok Singhal and three other officials,” said GD Tripathi, Commissioner & Secretary of Assam Border Protection & Development Department.
The five-member team will talk about finding a resolution to the long-running boundary issue between the two north-eastern states with their Mizoram counterpart.
Tripathi added that in order to keep the peace in the area, the two states would talk about border concerns.
On the other hand, Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana would be in charge of the Mizoram government team.
Both the sides held talks in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl in August of last year and decided to keep the calm while pursuing a peaceful solution to the inter-state border dispute.
The 164.6 km-long border between Assam and Mizoram has seen numerous clashes in recent years.
Tensions between Mizoram and Assam over the boundary dispute increased when six Assam policemen and one civilian were killed in a ferocious fire battle between the two states on July 26 of last year. Six companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were stationed at the scene and at least 50 persons were hurt as a result of the incident.
