Assam: Dense Fog and Decreased Brahmaputra Water Level Disrupt Ferry Services in Majuli

Guwahati, 11th January: Connectivity between Majuli’s Kamalabari and Nimatighat has been severely disrupted since 7:30 am on January 11 due to dense fog and a significant decrease in the water level of the Brahmaputra river. Multiple ferry cancellations have been reported as the reduced visibility and lower water levels pose risks for ferry operations.

The dense fog on January 11 has impacted visibility, making ferry operations unsafe. The sharp decrease in the water level raises concerns about ferries potentially becoming stranded in the sand. Despite these challenges, marine engine boats continue to operate, assuring passengers of safety with equipped safety measures such as life jackets.

The Inland Water Transport (IWT) is closely monitoring the ferry service and marine engine boats to prevent any unfortunate incidents, ensuring the safety of passengers during these challenging conditions.
