Assam: Devastating Fire in Bashbari Claims Elderly Couple’s Lives, Destroys Local Market Shops
Guwahati, August 31, 2024 — A tragic fire swept through North Boitamari’s Bashbari area on Friday, claiming the lives of an elderly couple and destroying three local shops. The blaze, which erupted around noon in a bustling market, quickly spiraled out of control following a gas cylinder explosion.
The fire ignited in a local market, rapidly spreading and engulfing a small tea shop where the elderly couple, Dulal Bhattacharya and Kaushalya Bhattacharya, resided. Despite the swift arrival of firefighting teams, the intensity of the flames proved overwhelming, leaving the couple with no chance of escape.
In addition to the loss of life, the fire also ravaged three neighboring shops, causing extensive property damage. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, with preliminary reports indicating that the gas cylinder explosion significantly exacerbated the situation, leading to the uncontrollable spread of the flames.
