Assam DGP Addresses Viral Video Allegations Linked to Recruitment Fundraising

Guwahati, 1st October: Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has responded to a viral video circulating on social media, clarifying that the footage is from February 2023 and has no relation to any current recruitment examinations. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he noted that despite the video’s age, the Goalpara Police have been instructed to investigate any potential criminal activity associated with its recording.

The video ignited a wave of social media outrage, with allegations suggesting that Professor Majbul Haque Chowdhury, the head of the English department at Goalpara College, was collecting money under the pretext of fundraising for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE) for Grade III and IV positions. However, DGP Singh’s clarification has effectively dispelled the rumors surrounding the situation.

The first phase of the State-Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC) Assam written examination for Grade III posts took place on September 15, followed by the second phase, which was conducted statewide last Sunday, drawing over 734,000 candidates across 822 centers in 27 districts. Additionally, the Grade IV exams are scheduled for October 20 and 27, with admit cards expected to be released soon.
