Assam DGP G P Singh Appointed as Director General of CRPF
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Assam Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh as the new Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), according to an official order dated January 18, 2025.
Singh, an IPS officer of the 1991 Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will assume charge of the CRPF with a tenure lasting until November 30, 2027, or until further orders. The appointment reflects the government’s strategic confidence in Singh’s extensive experience, particularly in handling insurgency and law enforcement challenges in the Northeast.
Throughout his career, Singh has held various critical assignments within the police force, including leadership roles in the Northeast and central postings. His expertise in counter-insurgency operations and internal security is expected to bolster the CRPF’s capabilities in maintaining peace and addressing security challenges across the nation.
The CRPF, India’s largest paramilitary force, plays a pivotal role in managing internal security and countering insurgencies. Singh’s leadership is anticipated to enhance the operational efficiency of the force, which remains at the forefront of combating extremism and safeguarding national security.
The official notification, issued by Sakshi Mittal, Director of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions, was circulated to key government entities, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Home Minister’s Office.
Singh’s appointment is being lauded as a well-calibrated decision, leveraging his vast experience to steer the CRPF in addressing contemporary security challenges and ensuring national stability.
