Assam DGP GP Singh Issues Warning Against Disruptive Protests

Guwahati, 1st March: Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh took to microblogging site X to issue a stern reminder to the public regarding the perils of disruptive protests.

In his post on March 1, Singh emphasized the grave consequences of advocating for what he termed “ভয়াৱহ আন্দোলন ভয়ংকৰ আন্দোলন” (“fear-inducing protest” in Assamese), urging individuals to recall the chaos that unfolded in December 2019.

Singh specifically cited incidents of vandalism and arson, notably at the esteemed Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra, a cultural complex in Assam.

The tumultuous events of 2019, characterized by widespread unrest and destruction, serve as a cautionary tale for the region.

Asserting the Assam Police’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order, Singh declared a zero-tolerance policy towards such disruptive activities in 2024.

In his capacity as the Director General of Police and the head of the state’s police force, he underscored his duty to keep the public informed about the potential risks associated with disruptive protests.
