Assam DGP On ULFA-I’s Call For Bandh On I-Day: “Ready To Handle Any Situation”
Guwahati: Assam Director General of Police (DGP) Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta on Friday said the state police is ready to handle any law-and-order situation created by the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) on Independence Day.
Earlier, the ULFA-I had proclaimed an Assam Bandh from midnight on August 14 till six o’clock on August 15.
The DGP stated, “Assam Police is not going to sit idle and we are ready for the day,” in connection to this.
The people of Assam have seen this predicament before, but this time they would not put up with it, he continued.
Notably, after 40 years, the ULFA-I, led by Paresh Baruah, chose not to boycott or demand a bandh on the occasion of Independence Day.
Reversing course, the outlawed militant group once more demanded a state-wide bandh this year.
The group objected to Assam’s Independence Day celebrations, claiming that the state “never a part of colonial India.”
The DGP Mahanta stated that Assam Police is still tracking down and apprehending Jihadis in regards to the Jehadi scenario in Assam.
The law will not spare anyone who provide Jehadis with shelter.
