Assam DGP Responds to ULFA-I Threats; Vows to Continue Counter-Terror Efforts

Guwahati, 24th July: In the wake of threats from the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I), Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP), GP Singh, asserted his unwavering commitment to counter-terrorism efforts. Addressing reporters in Silchar, Singh stated that he has encountered such threats from various terror groups during his 15-20 year career, not limited to Assam alone. He emphasized that the government pays them to carry out their entrusted duties, and the threats hold no significance.

Singh further asserted that the state’s chief minister is dedicated to Assam’s development, and he will not allow any organization to hinder progress through extortion and demands, regardless of their authenticity. He assured that strong action will be taken against those involved in extortion and hampering the state’s development.

Responding to ULFA-I’s demands that he stop alleged bogus encounters or leave the state, the DGP remained resolute in his stance. He stated that he would gladly leave Assam if it means ULFA-I will participate in the state’s developmental works envisioned by the chief minister.

The threats against GP Singh came after the Indian Army and Assam Police arrested a woman in Dibrugarh with suspected links to the outlawed faction.
