Assam DGP Reviews Election Preparedness and Security Situation in Dibrugarh

Guwahati, 21st February: Assam’s Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh arrived in Dibrugarh on February 20 to assess election preparations and review the law and order situation for the northeastern range of Upper Assam. Holding a crucial review meeting with security personnel at the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) boardroom in Lepetkatta, Singh emphasized the importance of stringent security measures ahead of the upcoming elections.

The visit gained significance following a major security breach reported at Dibrugarh Central Jail. DGP GP Singh paid a visit to the jail premises to inspect security measures after the discovery of a spy-cam, smartphone, and other gadgets in the prison cell of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh on February 17.

During his inspection, Singh met with Dibrugarh district commissioner Bikram Kairi, superintendent of police Shwetank Mishra, and other jail authorities. The objective of the meeting was to evaluate the existing security protocols and identify potential shortcomings that may have facilitated the smuggling of unauthorized items into the jail premises.

The comprehensive review underscores the Assam Police’s commitment to ensuring robust security arrangements and maintaining law and order during the electoral process. Measures are being taken to address security lapses and prevent any recurrence of such incidents, reaffirming the authorities’ dedication to upholding public safety and security.
