Assam DGP Visits Dhing After Brutal Rape of Minor
Guwahati, 23rd August: Assam’s Director-General of Police (DGP) GP Singh is visiting Dhing in Nagaon district today in response to the horrific gang rape of a 14-year-old girl on August 22. The visit underscores the state’s commitment to thoroughly investigating the crime and ensuring the safety of women and girls.
Speaking to the media, DGP Singh emphasized his determination to resolve the case. “We would crack the case and take it to a logical conclusion. My visit is to reiterate the commitment of Assam Police towards the safety of women and girls,” he said.
The visit comes as the Dhing Regional Students’ Union has declared a total shutdown of the town in protest. The union announced that all shops, markets, and educational institutions will remain closed until the perpetrators are arrested. In response to the heightened tension, additional police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in Dhing.
The assault occurred while the minor was returning home from tuition classes. The assailants reportedly stripped her and left her unconscious in a forested area, where she lay for nearly an hour before being discovered and rescued.
