Assam: Dhubri Congress Submits Memorandum to Governor Over Adani Allegations, Manipur Crisis, and Smart Meter Concerns

Assam: The Dhubri District Congress Committee, supported by citizens of Assam, has submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, urging his intervention on three pressing issues: alleged fraudulent activities by the Adani Group, the ongoing crisis in Manipur, and the contentious installation of smart meters in Assam.

The memorandum, submitted through the district administration, expressed concerns about recent allegations by the U.S. Department of Justice against Gautam Adani and his associates, including corruption, bribery, money laundering, and market manipulation. The Congress claimed these charges have tarnished India’s global business reputation and criticized the Indian government for evading parliamentary discussions on the matter, accusing it of lacking accountability.

On the situation in Manipur, the memorandum highlighted the state’s prolonged violence, curfews, and lawlessness, which have resulted in numerous deaths and widespread uncertainty. The Congress accused the BJP-led central and state governments of negligence, citing the prime minister’s absence from Manipur and the chief minister’s continued tenure as evidence of indifference toward the crisis.

Regarding the installation of smart meters in Assam, the Congress argued that the devices are financially burdensome for citizens. They pointed out that other states, such as Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, and Uttarakhand, have avoided installing smart meters in rural areas. The Congress urged the Governor to address this issue, emphasizing the financial struggles faced by Assam’s population.

The memorandum also condemned police actions during a peaceful protest rally organized by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on December 18 outside Raj Bhavan. It accused authorities of excessive use of tear gas, which reportedly harmed elderly individuals, children, and those with respiratory conditions.

Additionally, the Congress highlighted the tragic death of Advocate Mridul Islam, who was allegedly assaulted by authorities during the protest. They described his death as a “homicidal incident amounting to murder” and demanded justice for the deceased.

The Dhubri District Congress Committee called on the Governor to take immediate action to address these issues, ensuring justice, accountability, and relief for the affected citizens.
