Assam: Dhubri Sadar Sets Precedent with All-Female Polling Stations in Panchayat Elections

Guwahati: In a landmark move during the second phase of the Assam Panchayat elections, Dhubri Sadar transformed 16 schools into all-female polling stations, signaling a significant stride in women’s empowerment. Among these, the 67(2)-1370 Tarinikanta LP School (Left and Right) became a focal point of this initiative.

The Tarinikanta LP School’s right side polling station, managed exclusively by women, facilitated voting for 844 citizens, with a team comprising a presiding officer and three polling officers, all women.

Simultaneously, the left side of the Tarinikanta LP School catered to 520 voters, including four supplementary voters, supported by three female constables from the Assam Police, ensuring a secure and efficient voting process. This all-female management was replicated across 15 other schools in Dhubri.

This widespread deployment of all-female polling teams across multiple locations underscores a strong commitment to gender equality and showcases the administrative proficiency of women in critical civic duties. The elections at these stations were conducted peacefully and efficiently, earning commendation from both officials and voters.

The successful execution of these all-women polling stations stands as a testament to the meticulous planning by district election authorities and the unwavering dedication of the female staff, marking a significant advancement in recognizing and reinforcing women’s crucial role in the region’s democratic processes.
