Assam: Dhudhnoi Police Bust Drug Trafficking Attempt, Seize Nearly 12,000 Tapentadol Tablets Hidden in Vehicle
Guwahati: In a major blow to inter-state drug trafficking networks, the Dhudhnoi Police in Assam’s Goalpara district seized a significant cache of narcotic tablets in the early hours of Thursday.
Based on a confidential intelligence input, law enforcement officials intercepted a vehicle on the Dhudhnoi-Siluk connecting road and uncovered 11,950 tablets of Tapentadol, a highly addictive prescription painkiller frequently abused as a narcotic.
The arrested individual has been identified as Moinul Islam, a resident of Rakhasini Garopara Part 2 under Mornoi Police Station. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS-26F-3155, was reportedly transporting the narcotics from Cooch Behar in West Bengal to Baghmara in Meghalaya. In an attempt to avoid detection, the consignment had been cleverly stashed inside the engine compartment.
Despite the concealment, the operation—supervised by Goalpara district Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dipankar Dekaraja—successfully led to the seizure of the drugs, which weighed approximately 5.006 kilograms. During interrogation, Islam confessed that the tablets were valued at around Rs 5.3 lakh in the black market.
Police officials revealed that two other individuals, believed to be associates of the arrested accused, fled the scene during the raid and are currently being pursued. The Dhudhnoi Police have intensified their investigation, aiming to uncover the broader network behind this attempted drug transport.
