Assam: Dibrugarh Central Jail Superintendent Arrested for Alleged Complicity in Unlawful Activities
Guwahati, 8th March: In a significant development, the Dibrugarh Police have arrested the Superintendent of Dibrugarh Central Jail following the discovery of contraband items within the facility’s premises, allegedly linked to detainee Amritpal Singh.
SP VV Rakesh Reddy provided insights into the unfolding events during a press briefing, shedding light on the meticulous search operation that uncovered illicit items, including mobile phones with remote keypads and other communication devices.
Reddy elaborated on the ensuing investigation, revealing compelling evidence implicating the superintendent in facilitating unlawful activities within the jail. The gravity of the situation was underscored by the presence of National Security Act (NSA) detainees, raising concerns about potential threats to law and order and national security.
From a legal perspective, Reddy outlined the charges against the superintendent, including relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Assam Prison Act, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations.
Addressing queries about the ongoing probe, Reddy assured a thorough investigation, leveraging forensic analyses and other investigative measures to ascertain the extent of communication between detainees and external entities.
Furthermore, Reddy reassured the public about the welfare of the detainees, confirming regular medical supervision for those on hunger strike and prompt actions to address any health concerns. He reiterated the authorities’ commitment to upholding the rule of law while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all inmates.
