Assam: Direct Delhi-Jorhat Flight Among Major IndiGo Connectivity Push

New Delhi/Guwahati: In a significant fillip to Assam’s regional aviation landscape, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced a direct, non-stop flight connecting New Delhi and Jorhat, set to take off from mid-September 2025. The Chief Minister shared the exciting development via his official ‘X’ handle, following a high-level confabulation with IndiGo Airlines’ top brass in the national capital.

“It was a pleasure to meet the leadership of IndiGo in New Delhi to discuss their roadmap for expanding air connectivity in Assam,” Sarma’s post read, signalling a proactive approach to bolstering air travel options for the state’s populace. “Delighted to share that IndiGo will commence a non-stop flight between Delhi and Jorhat starting mid-September 2025,” he further elaborated, underlining the commitment to enhancing accessibility.

Beyond the marquee Jorhat service, the comprehensive meeting also delved into a broader strategy for augmenting intra-state and inter-state air routes. CM Sarma unveiled a slew of upcoming enhancements to IndiGo’s schedule, promising a more robust and responsive air network for Assam. The Delhi-Dibrugarh flight, a popular existing route, will be revamped to include a crucial stopover at Guwahati, thereby significantly improving morning connectivity between the two pivotal cities of Assam.

Further addressing long-standing commuter demands, particularly from the Barak Valley, a new early morning service between Guwahati and Silchar is slated for introduction. Additionally, looking ahead to the Winter 2025-26 flight schedule, a fresh Guwahati-Navi Mumbai route is planned, opening up direct access to the bustling financial hub. IndiGo is also set to explore scheduled operations from Lilabari Airport in North Lakhimpur, a move that could potentially usher in enhanced connectivity for upper Assam.

“These additions are a significant stride toward strengthening Assam’s air network. I appreciate IndiGo’s prompt and positive response and look forward to more such collaborative efforts,” Sarma added, expressing his gratitude for the airline’s positive engagement. This sweeping expansion is poised to be a watershed moment in Assam’s infrastructural journey, aligning seamlessly with the state government’s overarching vision to seamlessly integrate its remote regions through improved connectivity, ultimately boosting both economic growth and tourism prospects.
