Assam: District Congress Stages Protest Against Minority Atrocities in Bangladesh, Criticizes Indian Government

Assam: The District Congress staged a vociferous protest in Sribhumi, decrying the alleged atrocities on minorities in Bangladesh and accusing the Indian government of failing to respond adequately through diplomatic channels.

The protest featured the burning of effigies of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, symbolizing the demonstrators’ frustration. The rally, which began at Indira Bhavan and culminated at the Dharna Shed near the Deputy Commissioner’s office, was marked by chants such as “Down with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.”

Addressing the crowd, District Congress President Rajat Chakraborty expressed dismay at the government’s perceived inefficiency in addressing cross-border human rights violations. “The lack of action on such a sensitive matter is deeply troubling,” he stated, urging for a more assertive foreign policy to protect minority rights across borders.

The protest underscored growing demands for India’s intervention in ensuring justice and safety for vulnerable communities in neighboring countries. Demonstrators called for a strategic and proactive approach from the government to address these concerns effectively.
